Age of Empires 2 Cheats: Every AoE II Definitive Edition Cheat Code

Typing cheats in Age of Empires 2 is a tradition almost as old as the game itself. The Definitive Edition kept it alive: every code from 1999 still works, and updates have added new ones on top. Below we've collected every code that works in the Definitive Edition, with what it does.
How do you enable cheats?
During a match, press Enter, type the code into the box that opens and press Enter again. Capitalization doesn't matter.
In multiplayer or in a match you set up with friends, the lobby host has to turn on the Allow Cheats option in the settings. If it's off, nothing happens even when you type the codes.
A few more rules worth knowing:
- Cheat units appear next to your Town Center. If you don't have a Town Center, the unit won't appear even if you typed the code correctly.
- You can't earn a medal in a scenario where you've used cheats, and campaign achievements won't unlock either.
- Most unit-spawning codes don't work in Return of Rome. In the Chronicles scenarios they all work.
Resource cheats
| Code | What it does |
|---|---|
| cheese steak jimmy's | Gives 10,000 food. |
| lumberjack | Gives 10,000 wood. |
| robin hood | Gives 10,000 gold. |
| rock on | Gives 10,000 stone. |
| ninjaconnor / ninjalui / rowshep | Gives 100,000 of each of the four resources. All three do the same thing. |
If you played older versions of the game, you'll remember these codes giving 1,000. The amount went up to 10,000 with The Forgotten expansion. The name cheese steak jimmy's isn't random either: it comes from Jimmy's, a restaurant in Texas where the Ensemble Studios team used to go for lunch.

| catzor | Spawns the Sharkatzor: a flying, very fast and tough siege unit. |
| alpaca simulator | Spawns Alfred the Alpaca: a cavalry unit with very strong attack and armor, but as slow as infantry. |

| furious the monkey boy | Spawns Furious the Monkey Boy: an animal with very high attack but very low hit points. |
| to smithereens | Spawns the Saboteur: like a Demolition Ship that moves on land, and much stronger than a Petard. |
| i love the monkey head | Spawns the VMDL: a very fast villager that can't fight. It can only place building foundations, and when garrisoned in a building it adds to the arrows the building fires. |
Transformation cheats
These codes turn your units on the map into a different unit. Most were first tried out in in-game events and then opened up to everyone.
| Code | What it does |

| yes we khan | Turns your Mangudai into Genghis Khan. |
| put on your capes | Turns all your infantry into Elite Teutonic Knights. |
| grab your pitchforks | Turns your villagers into Flemish Militia. |
| flemish reformation | Turns your villagers into monks. |
| cameleon | Turns most of your camel units into Flaming Camels. A few, like the Mameluke, Camel Scout and Camel Raider, aren't affected. |
