Age of Empires: Definitive Edition Cheat Codes: Full List

Age of Empires: Definitive Edition kept the cheats from the original 1997 game as they were. The codes from The Rise of Rome expansion work too. We've collected all of them below with what they do.
How do you enter cheats?
During a match, press Enter, type the code into the box that opens and press Enter again. Capitalization doesn't matter. If you want to enter the same code over and over, type it once and copy it with Ctrl+C; after that, Ctrl+V and Enter is all you need each time.
A few rules:
- Cheat units appear next to your Town Center. If you have more than one, next to the one you built most recently. If you have no Town Center the unit won't appear, and it won't appear either if the Town Center is advancing to the next age at that moment.
- Codes that transform units don't affect units you've converted from the enemy. For the strongest result, enter the code before researching the technologies that upgrade that unit.
- Unlike the Definitive Editions of AoE II and AoE III, using cheats here doesn't block achievements.
Resource cheats
| Code | What it does |
|---|---|
| PEPPERONI PIZZA | Gives 1,000 food. |
| WOODSTOCK | Gives 1,000 wood. |
| COINAGE | Gives 1,000 gold. |
| QUARRY | Gives 1,000 stone. |
Cheat units
| Code | What it does |
|---|---|
| BIGDADDY | Spawns a car called Winsett's Z. Its rocket launcher deals a total of 600 damage to every unit it hits, every two seconds. |
| BIG MOMMA | Spawns a second car, Winsett's other Z. Its rockets only deal 120 damage in total but fire five times as fast. |
| E=MC2 TROOPER | Spawns the Nuke Trooper: a futuristic soldier carrying a nuclear launcher with a range of 88. |
| PHOTON MAN | Spawns the Laser Trooper: a futuristic soldier with a fast-firing laser gun. |
| STORMBILLY | Spawns a robot called Zug 209. Its laser guns fire every half second. |
| CONVERT THIS! | Spawns Saint Francis: a priest who calls down lightning every three seconds. Technologies and civilization bonuses that improve priests make him stronger too. |
| POW | Spawns BabyPrez: a baby on a tricycle with a shotgun that fires every half second. |
Unit transformation cheats
| Code | What it does |
|---|---|
| BIG BERTHA | Turns your stone throwers and catapults into Big Berthas: tougher, longer-ranged and with a much wider blast area. |
| BLACK RIDER | Turns your horse archers into Black Riders. When killed, they come back as catapults. |
| MEDUSA | Turns your villagers into Medusas. When killed, they come back as Black Riders. |
| DARK RAIN | Turns your foot archers into Stealth Archers: they become trees when standing still and can walk on water. Archer technologies you've already researched don't apply to these units. |
| FLYING DUTCHMAN | Turns your Catapult Triremes and Juggernauts into Flying Dutchmen that can also travel on land. |
| UPSIDFLINTMOBILE | Your chariot archers become very fast and fire three times as quickly. |
| HOYOHOYO | Your priests become very fast and gain 600 hit points. If you research the right technologies at the temple after this code, the values double. |
| ICBM | Raises the range of Ballistas and Helepolises to 100. Their line of sight doesn't increase, so they can't hit distant moving targets, but they can hit explored buildings under the fog. Handy as a last resort for knocking down an enemy Wonder. |
| JACK BE NIMBLE | Your stone-throwing siege weapons launch cows and villagers instead of stones. |
| KING ARTHUR | Turns birds into dragons. |
| GRANTLINKSPENCE | Turns huntable animals into stronger "Alpha" variants. |
Map and speed cheats
| Code | What it does |
|---|---|
| REVEAL MAP | Reveals the whole map. |
| NO FOG | Removes the fog of war. |
| STEROIDS | Construction, research, gathering and unit production finish instantly, and animals die in one hit. Applies to all players; type it again to turn it off. |
| GAIA | You control the animals on the map but lose control of your own civilization. If you didn't save before entering the code, there's no way back. |
Cheats that end the game
| Code | What it does |
|---|---|
| HOME RUN | You win the game instantly. |
| DIEDIEDIE | All enemy units and buildings are destroyed and you win. It doesn't give you the win in some scenarios with non-military objectives, and it doesn't work in multiplayer. |
| KILL2 … KILL8 | Destroys the player whose number you type, for example KILL3 for player 3. KILL1 does nothing, and typing a number that isn't in the game can crash it. |
| RESIGN | You lose the game no matter how well you're doing. |
| HARI KARI | Destroys all your units and buildings and you lose. If you have a Medusa or a Black Rider, the game doesn't end. Typing it many times in a row can crash the game. |
Return of Rome is a different story
The Return of Rome mode inside Age of Empires II: Definitive Edition also plays AoE I, but because it runs on the AoE II engine the cheats change. The resource codes give 10,000 there instead of 1,000, and AoE II's resource codes (like robin hood and rock on) work too. AoE II's unit-spawning codes, however, are disabled in Return of Rome. POW and JACK BE NIMBLE aren't in Return of Rome either.
For all of AoE II's codes, see our Age of Empires 2 cheat codes page; for the other games, see Age of Empires 4 cheat codes and Age of Empires cheat codes.
