Privacy Policy

Last updated: 4 October 2026

This notice explains which personal data is processed when you visit ageofempires.xyz (the "site"), why it is processed, who it is shared with and what your rights are under Turkey's Personal Data Protection Law No. 6698 (KVKK) and, where it applies, the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). The site is an independent fan project; it has no user accounts and only collects what is described below.

Data controller

The data controller is Alper Peri, who runs the site. For any question or request about this notice, write to [email protected] or use the contact form.

Data processed when you browse the site

  • Server logs: For every page request, your IP address, the time of the request, the address opened, the referring page and your browser information (user agent) are written to the server logs. These logs are kept for the security of the site, to find errors and to prevent abuse, and are deleted automatically after 10 days.
  • Theme preference: If you choose the light or dark theme, this preference is stored only in your browser (localStorage) and is not sent to us.
  • Tools: The villager, cost and civilization comparison tools run entirely in your browser; the values you enter are not sent to the server.

Comments

When you write a comment, you send us your name, your comment and, if you wish, your email address. The name and comment are published under the article once approved. The email address is never published and is only used to contact you if needed. Comments are stored in our database; your IP address is not stored with the comment. When a new comment arrives, the site administrator receives a notification email containing the name, the email address if given, and the comment text. You can ask for your comment to be deleted at any time.

Contact form

The name, email address, subject and message you enter in the contact form, together with your IP address, are not stored in a database; they are forwarded to the site administrator by email and used to reply to you. These emails remain in the administrator's mailbox and are deleted when you ask.

Abuse protection

The comment and contact forms use Cloudflare Turnstile to block automated submissions. To tell whether a submission comes from a person, Turnstile collects some technical signals from your browser and sends them to Cloudflare. To block many submissions in a short time, your IP address is also kept temporarily in the server's memory; it is not stored and is erased when the server restarts.

Cookies and advertising

The site's costs are covered by Google AdSense advertising. Google and its partners use cookies and similar technologies to show and measure ads and, if you consent, to show personalised ads. You can make your choice in the consent dialog shown on your first visit and change it later. For details see how Google uses data on partner sites; you can turn off personalised ads in Google Ad Settings.

The site itself does not use analytics or tracking cookies. Cloudflare may set short-lived technical cookies for attack protection.

Third-party services we use

  • Cloudflare: Traffic to the site passes through Cloudflare (speed and attack protection); images are hosted on Cloudflare R2; the forms use Turnstile. Cloudflare privacy policy
  • Google AdSense: Advertising (see above). Google privacy policy
  • Neon: The database that holds articles and comments; it runs in Amazon Web Services' Frankfurt (Germany) data centre. Neon (Databricks) privacy notice
  • Buy Me a Coffee: The support button at the bottom right is loaded from Buy Me a Coffee's servers. If you make a donation, your payment and personal details are processed directly by Buy Me a Coffee; we only receive what they share with us. Buy Me a Coffee privacy policy
  • YouTube: Videos in articles are not loaded until you press play; only the thumbnail comes from YouTube's image server. When you play a video, it opens in YouTube's cookie-free (youtube-nocookie.com) player.

International transfers

The servers of the providers above are located outside Turkey, and for visitors from the European Union some of them are outside the EU. Data processed while these services are used (IP address, browser information, comment and form contents) is therefore transferred abroad. These transfers take place to run the site and to provide the services you request (publishing comments, replying to messages, showing ads according to your ad preferences).

Server logs and abuse protection are based on our legitimate interest in keeping the site secure (KVKK art. 5/2-f; GDPR art. 6(1)(f)); comment and contact data on handling the communication you start (KVKK art. 5/2-c, f; GDPR art. 6(1)(b) and (f)); personalised advertising cookies on the consent you give in the consent dialog (KVKK art. 5/1; GDPR art. 6(1)(a)).

Your rights

Under article 11 of the KVKK and, where it applies, articles 15–21 of the GDPR, you can ask the data controller to:

  • tell you whether your personal data is processed and, if so, give you information about it and a copy of it,
  • tell you the purpose of the processing and whether the data is used accordingly,
  • tell you the third parties in Turkey or abroad to whom your data is transferred,
  • correct your data if it is incomplete or inaccurate,
  • delete or destroy your data, or restrict its processing,
  • notify the third parties your data was transferred to of any correction or deletion,
  • object to processing based on legitimate interests, and to any result against you arising solely from automated analysis,
  • provide the data you gave us in a portable format, and to compensate any damage caused by unlawful processing.

You can withdraw consent at any time through the consent dialog. Send your requests to [email protected]; they are answered within 30 days at the latest. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with the Turkish Personal Data Protection Authority or, if you live in the EU, with your national data protection authority.

Changes

We update this notice when we start using a new service or when the way we process data changes. The current date is always shown at the top of the page.
